Provider verification
Verify a California CNA course provider before you spend time or money
Reviewed 07-13-2026
A polished course page does not prove that its hours will count. Before enrolling, a California Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) should match the provider's identity and delivery format against current California Department of Public Health (CDPH) sources, then save enough evidence to repeat the check later.
Follow CNA CE California on the launch list
Start with the exact provider identity
Record the provider name exactly as it appears on the course and ask for its Nurse Assistant Certification number. Small differences can matter when a brand name, school name, and legal provider name are not identical. Search using more than one identifier before deciding that two records refer to the same organization.
- Exact provider name
- Nurse Assistant Certification number
- Course title and number, if one is assigned
- Online, in-person, or other delivery format
- Number of hours advertised
Use the state source that matches the course format
For an online course, compare the provider against the current CDPH approved online continuing-education provider list. CDPH currently limits approved online computer training to no more than 24 of the 48 hours required during a two-year certification period.
The state also provides a training-provider status verification service. Use the provider's exact information, review the returned status carefully, and contact CDPH when the result is absent or unclear. Do not turn a close name match into an approval claim.
Stop when the evidence conflicts: If a provider's website, certificate, and state record do not agree, resolve the difference before enrolling or counting hours. A customer-service assurance is not a substitute for current state verification.
Check the course record before paying
The current CDPH 283A in-service training and continuing-education record shows the information used to document education. Ask whether the completion certificate will give you a clear course title, completion date, hours, provider name, and provider number. For online work, confirm that the record identifies the course as online.
| Verification item | Where to check | What to save |
|---|---|---|
| Provider identity | Course page, provider record, and state source | Exact name and provider number |
| Online approval | Current CDPH online-provider list | Dated copy or note of the match |
| Course details | Enrollment page and completion certificate | Title, date, delivery format, and hours |
| Unclear status | Provider and CDPH | Written clarification before relying on the hours |
Watch for claims that need a second look
- "Accepted everywhere" without a California provider number.
- A logo or agency name that links to no current state record.
- A certificate that omits the provider number, hours, or completion date.
- An online provider that does not appear under the exact name you were given.
- Pressure to enroll before you can review course and provider information.
These are reasons to verify further, not proof of wrongdoing. Provider names and state records can change, which is why current official sources remain in charge.
Where CNA CE California fits
CNA CE California is being built as a mobile learning workspace with searchable lessons, saved material, quizzes, and progress. CNA CE California is not currently a CDPH-approved continuing-education provider, and activity in the TestFlight build does not currently count toward renewal.

Frequently asked questions
How do I check whether an online CNA continuing-education provider is approved in California?
Compare the provider's exact name and identifying information with the current CDPH approved online continuing-education provider list before enrolling.
Does a payment receipt prove that a CNA course counts for renewal?
No. A receipt proves a purchase, not provider approval or successful completion. Keep the completion certificate and the information required by the current state record form.
What should I do if a provider cannot be found in the state sources?
Do not assume the course will count. Recheck the provider's exact legal name and number, then contact the provider or CDPH for clarification before enrolling or claiming the hours.
